As much as I missed simply going out and not cooking all the time during quarantine, what I missed most is terraces. Those nice and packed Amsterdam terraces where you sit for hours and people-watch. You know who’s got a pretty good spot for that? Two Chef’s new bar, called….Two Chefs Bar.
I mean, good for remembering it – not super creative, though.
But anyway! Two Chefs Bar opened when all other restaurants and bars around reopened their doors, on 1st of June. So it’s fairly new, it’s in a good location and it has a nice, large and sunny terrace. All good for now.
I wanted to check out their menu, since I figured: if you make good beer, you probably won’t suck at making good food to go along. Also, they’re called Two Chefs.
Two Chefs already had a foodie spot, called Bar Alt. It’s a bit fancier than you’d expect from a brewery bar, as the guys were trying to switch the “fine dining with wine” concept to…beer.
The new Two Chefs Bar however is much more relaxed. It’s not exactly cheap, but it’s more accessible and food is more on the burgers and steak side.
Their menu is not very extensive. I mentioned multiple times before that I appreciate places that make a couple of things but do those very well. So that’s what my expectations were.
I was there on one of those rare 30 degrees days. I usually don’t eat much when it’s really warm outside, so I went for something light that’s also one of my favorite things ever: Gazpacho. They have a green one, made of tiger tomatoes, asparagus (yessss) and green beans.
I can only say it was delicious. I enjoyed every bite – slurp? – but the portion could have been a bit more generous. Or maybe add a nice piece of bread on the side? You know, just something to make it an actual meal instead of a starter. So it’s a 10 for taste, but you’ll need a real meal next to it. Or friends who share theirs with you (thanks guys).
Hayden and my other friend had a Fried Label Rouge Burger, which looked really nice. The guys were happy with it too, and I had a bite that made my heart happy. Here’s some inside information though: there are pickles in it, although not mentioned on the menu. I personally love pickles, but many don’t so…just a heads up.
My vegan friend had this thing called Roasted Steak of Celeriac. The waitress told her that “it tastes amazing and she won’t even miss the meat”. After a couple of bites, she agreed and said “oh my God, it tastes just like meat”.
I can confirm this is absolutely fake news and no, it doesn’t – but that’s what vegans say after not having real steak for years. It was still really tasty though!
We had a couple of sides and too many beers to go along, as we’re all big fans of the actual brewery. It was a beautiful evening filled with good food, good drinks and good friends on a beautiful terrace.
The bill gave me a short heart attack – but that’s probably our own fault.
Overall really happy with this new spot and I encourage you to go try it out. They know their stuff.
