Does everyone already know that I live for brunch? Okay, cool. Dignita has obviously been on my “to eat” list for a while. Their food is very Instagramable, so it popped on my feed multiple times. With two locations and a Bloody Mary on their landing page, it was bound to happen.
Last Sunday we went to their East location, in Hoftuin. The pretty surroundings almost made me forget that I had to go allll the way to the East – it’s hard for Westerners. After waiting for 30 minutes with a group of 5 people (no reservations), we were in and ready!
Started the day with a cocktail as every bruncher does – well, except for my 2 boring friends who had coffees. My Bloody Mary was good enough to order a second one, but not the best I’ve had. A bit too watery.
I went for the Benny Boy – mostly because I really wanted to try their crispy potato hash, which did not disappoint. The eggs were also perfectly cooked and the soft, foamy hollandaise was delicious. The bacon was crispy and thick…ish. The star of the dish remains the potato hash. Can someone (like Hayden, for example) learn how to make it and feed me?
Hayden had the Open Yemeni Lamb Leg Sandwich. Now, I’m not a lamb fan, but this was pretty damn good. Rubbed in rosemary, lemon and salt, it makes all the difference. While the picture below doesn’t show any lamb or soever, I assure you it was under all the pretty looking greens and pickled onions.
My friend (the one drinking with us, not the coffee people) had the Umami Avocado and I honestly think he picked it just because he didn’t know half of the ingredients. I don’t blame him: ripe avocado on toast dusted with Japanese furikake seaweed seasoning and topped with tangy daikon & yuzu marinated shiitake mushrooms, togarashi chilli, vegan yuzu mayonnaise, crispy furikake crumbed egg & edamame beans.
It definitely looks pretty, and he seemed happy with the taste too. That’s just a bit too much avocado for me and not a lot of anything else. I love the idea of the crispy egg, something I’ve never had before and I’m intrigued.
The portions were fair as the food can be pretty rich. If you’re not quite there yet, there’s always cake!
Dignita made a good impression on me. Their food is high quality and you can taste that. They do their best to use locally sourced and fresh food. Oh, and it’s pretty healthy! Well, except for this extra bacon here…
Currently there aren’t many more thing on their menu that I’d like to try, but if that changes, I’d happily return. A healthy, good brunch for a fair price. Thanks for having us Dignita!
