Best restaurants in Amsterdam 2019
Hard to believe 2019 is almost over! Dozens of meals and reviews later, I had a look back to what I consider to be the top 5 restaurants in Amsterdam (so far). Here’s where I returned more than once, where I order my Sunday night lazy dinners from or where I send my friends when they’re asking for a good meal. Enjoy the read, comment, challenge it, share…you do you.
5. Assaggi
The first time I went to Assaggi, I had low expectations and was very pleasantly surprised. My Spaghetti alle Vongole were excellent and Hayden had “the best Carbonara of his life“. We both ate every single piece off that plate and left thrilled that the best pasta we’ve had so far was in Jordaan. Meanwhile, a couple of friends tried and approved of the hype I built. I came to learn that Assaggi has some better days than others, but even so, it makes my top 5.
4. Umaimon

Ramen is a booming trend in Amsterdam with new places popping up constantly. I still have many to try, but so far Umaimon has a special place in my heart (and top). From the broth, to the meat that melts in your mouth, to the many toppings cooked to perfection, I’ll always opt for a hearty bowl of ramen at Umaimon to beat the Amsterdam cold.
3. Cut Throat

When I first tried Cut Throat’s brunch, I wondered how doesn’t everybody know about this place?! Still not sure. A yet hidden gem, Cut Throat remains my favorite brunch spot. You cannot go wrong with their Huevos Rancheros or the Chicken & Waffles. Bloody Mary’s are also to die for!
2. Sichuan Restaurant
There is one place to go to in Amsterdam to set your mouth on fire (you know, in the best way possible): Sichuan Restaurant. This place stays true to the Sichuan cuisine and could not care less about the Dutch definition of spicy. It burns, it’s delicious, it’s the real deal. The menu has hundreds of options, but make sure you try the Spicy Dumplings. Also known for amazing Mapo Tofu.
1. La Perla
An Amsterdam classic and an all time Eat And Tell favorite. I’ll drop anything for La Perla’s Calabrese Di Spilinga, a spicy, cheesy, sent-from-God pizza. My “to try” pizza list is long and never ending, but taking La Perla’s spot in my book will be hard. I doubt one can leave unsatisfied.
But really, go with the Calabrese Di Spilinga – just trust me.
So here it is! Eat And Tell Amsterdam’s top 5 restaurants after all the research done in 2019 (eh, and a bit in 2018). I believe these 5 places excel at what they do and are ready to impress. I know they impressed me.
Cheers! To more great food in 2020!
